The Kelusa at Samsara Ubud is the idyllic place for a romantic dinner under the stars while enjoying modern Indonesian cuisine

Nestled within the charming village of Payangan, The Kelusa is a dining destination like no other. The journey to reach the quaint village is a special invitation to witness the lush agricultural heartland of Ubud. Come early to view the green rice fields, charming villages and swaying bamboo forests along the way.

Housed within Samsara Ubud boutique resort, the restaurant offers cosy semi-outdoor and al fresco seating for that romantic dinner under the stars with your loved ones. The surrounding verdant hill and mesmerising sound of the forest is also yours to be had as you sit back and sip your cocktail. The newly refurbished restaurant highlights the locale, from its craftsmanship to its modern take on Indonesian cuisine.

Helmed by executive chef Iwan Sutrisno, The Kelusa’s new menu highlights locally-sourced ingredients and authentic Indonesian regional flavours – with the chef’s own unique twist. Savour dishes such as the aromatic tuna salad Sambal Be Tongkol, Cakalang Woku and Gethuk. The latter is an arresting take on Javanese’s cassava cake made of vanilla custard, mixed nut crumble, and vanilla ice cream.

Pair the dishes with wine from the well-stocked cellar or opt for the signature cocktails. From Samsara Snifter (tequila, house-made lemongrass and ginger infusion, ginger beer, and vanilla passion foam) to the classic Old Fashioned, let the bartenders impress you with their creations.

Families are welcomed and a dedicated menu for the little ones is available – true to the owner’s wish to create “a place that values inclusivity, innovations and connections with nature and the surrounding”.
