Mamaka by Ovolo hosted a charity dinner and raised millions for the Bali Children Foundation, in support of children's education in Bali's remote area.

The lively beachfront resort in Kuta, Mamaka by Ovolo, once again showed its profound commitment to the community through a successful charity dinner at the resort’s Kuta Social Club. The charity dinner, themed “Fork it Over! Eat Good, Do Good, Feel Good,” brought the spirit of altruism to life. A diverse range of mindful attendees enlivened the event on 31 May 2024, ensuring an impactful conclusion to the month.

The charity dinner was held to raise funds to support the worthy cause of Bali children’s education and welfare through the Bali Children Foundation. This time, all collected proceedings from the dinner were given to the foundation to enhance educational facilities in remote areas of Bali.

Nicole Downs, group director, people & performance at Ovolo Hotels, stated that the charity dinner underscored the brand’s unwavering commitment to the local community, particularly regarding Bali’s education aspect. “This programme,” she noted, “is a good way to give back to the community, especially to ensure that Indonesia’s next generation has a better future.”

The convivial event was graced by three culinary talents: former chef of Lyle’s London, Karl Doering; Fivelements Ubud’s chef, Dinda Weragati; and Kuta Social Club’s executive chef, Ben Harrington. The talented trio presented a delicious six-course menu, taking guests on a heartwarming culinary journey during this meaningful evening. The festive entertainment complemented every dish, including live music, DJ performances, and enthralling fire dances.

The attendees were then encouraged to join the silent auction, the essence of the charitable evening. The entirety of the funds raised at the event were directed to the Bali Children Foundation. The charity dinner successfully raised over Rp200,000,000, which will be used to support the improvement of school classroom facilities in SDN 2 Sidetapa, North Bali.

The elementary school accommodates 225 students, with four out of six classrooms that have seen better days and are in dire need of restoration for the collapsed roofs and damaged walls and floors, among other problems. The funds will also provide multimedia equipment to boost learning quality. The organisation does not stop there. They will also implement some learning programmes such as EdTech (literacy and numeracy skill building) for grade one, English class, and project-based learning for grades four to six.

Margaret Barry, the founder of the Bali Children Foundation, extended her gratitude for the support and underscored the critical need for improved educational opportunities for children in Bali, “it is crucial for these children to receive a better education so that they can also have a better future.”

SDN 2 Sidetapa is not the first school the resort and the organisation have helped. Through last year’s charity event, Ovo-Walk 2023, the partnership also successfully fundraised a donation to support SDN 3 Sidetapa for school supplies procurement and scholarship funding. The charity walk is set to return in October this year, dubbed OVO WALK 2024.

Joel Bartlett, general manager of Mamaka by Ovolo, expressed his enthusiasm for the next charity event. “We will continue to participate in supporting BCF through OVO WALK 2024 in October, which is an annual event. We will also continue to implement the programmes that have been carried out at SDN 3 Sidetapa for the 2024/2025 academic year.” He then noted their current focus, “However, the primary focus now is the renovation of SDN 2 Sidetapa,” said Joel Bartlett, General Manager of Mamaka by Ovolo.”

The hospitality brand’s unwavering dedication to the well-being of its surrounding community is evident in its continuous efforts, including the recent charity dinner hosted by Mamaka by Ovolo.
