Meet the Winemakers of Margaret River Brings Western Australia’s Wine Country to Bali

On 19 August 2026, the distinctive wines of Western Australia’s Margaret River region took centre stage in Bali as Meet The Maker Events presented Meet the Winemakers of Margaret River, an exclusive trade masterclass and tasting held at Kaum Restaurant. Supported by the South West Development Commission, the gathering brought together 37 hospitality decision-makers, sommeliers and luxury resort food and beverage directors for an intimate exploration of one of Australia’s most celebrated wine regions.

Rather than following the format of a conventional walk-around tasting, the event was designed as an immersive educational experience, placing the character of Margaret River firmly in focus. Through guided tastings and conversations with the producers, guests were introduced to the region’s climate, distinctive terroir, boutique winemaking philosophies and the versatility of its wines when paired with food.

The evening also offered a closer look at two producers representing different facets of Margaret River’s contemporary wine landscape. House of Cards Winery, whose Bali market launch was approaching, presented a selection of handcrafted organic wines shaped by minimalist intervention and an emphasis on regional expression. Plan B Wines, meanwhile, showcased terroir-driven selections developed with contemporary fine dining and luxury resort environments across Southeast Asia in mind.

For Bali’s hospitality community, the event provided more than an opportunity to taste. It created a direct connection between winemakers and the people responsible for shaping wine programmes across the island’s restaurants, resorts and bars. Among the participating venues were AYANA Bali, Truntum Kuta, Mama San, Merah Putih, Barbacoa, Amici, Single Fin Uluwatu and Masonry, bringing together a cross-section of Bali’s established hospitality scene.

The strong turnout underscored the growing interest in premium Australian wines within Southeast Asia. Of 50 hospitality operators invited to the gathering, 37 attended, representing a 74 percent conversion rate. Distribution partners Indowines, Meisindo and Boga Fine Wines were also present, establishing connections between the visiting producers and local supply networks.

The occasion came at a particularly notable moment for Margaret River. House of Cards Winery had recently received a 100-point score from an International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) judge, the first such score in the competition’s history. The achievement added another layer of significance to an event focused on introducing Bali’s trade community to the region’s boutique producers and premium wines.

Perhaps most telling was the response from those in the room. Feedback from Bali’s trade attendees described the masterclass as a fresh approach to regional wine education, with guests particularly appreciating the opportunity to meet the winemakers and hear their stories first-hand.

At its heart, Meet the Winemakers of Margaret River was a reminder that wine is as much about place and people as it is about what sits in the glass. By bringing Margaret River’s producers directly to Bali’s hospitality community, the evening opened a more intimate conversation around terroir, craftsmanship and the evolving role of Australian wine within the region’s dining landscape.
