Elegant French fine dining at Gunther’s
Back bigger, badder and bolder; Gunther's is making waves with his revamped restaurant.
After a short renovation break, Gunther’s has re-opened its doors to interiors sporting a luxurious contemporary interpretation of art nouveau woodwork. With the art style originating in his native Belgium, it’s apt that chef-owner Gunther Hubrechsen wanted his eponymous restaurant’s interiors to be outfitted with the fluid continuity of delicately curved light oak. Award-winning design firm Weijenberg interpreted his ethos across the bar, dining and private spaces of the restaurant, linking each space to the next by creative brass ‘tunnels’ for a refreshing look. The new layout also pays special attention to privacy, allowing multiple configurations of soundproof rooms and alternative access to private dining areas. “I wanted the focus to be on my food and my guests to feel at home when they come,” says Gunther of the warm, almost gallery-like space.
Expect regular signature mainstays on the largely unchanged menu, including Cold Angel Hair Pasta with Truffle and Oscietra Caviar ($60); Crispy Suckling Pig with Kriek Beer Sauce ($85); Carpaccio of Wagyu Beef ‘Tartare’ with crispy potato ($35); and Fine Apple Tart à La Dragées with Havana rum raisin ice-cream ($25). Or opt for one of his weekly lunch sets or degustation menus (from $35). #01-03 Talib Centre, 36 Purvis Street. Tel: 6338 8955
