MODERN PERANAKAN FARE
The wittily named Baba Chews fits right at home in Katong, a neighbourhood rich in Peranakan culture and history. Housed within boutique Hotel Indigo, the restaurant serves classic and re-invented Peranakan dishes. Head chef Alvin Leong brings his previous experience as chef de cuisine at InterContinental Singapore, injecting a modern touch to the cuisine. Leong recommends that first-time diners try his signature Ayam Buah Keluak Burger. It consists of a chicken patty drenched in buah keluak sauce, which is served between multigrain ciabatta buns with a side of achar. You will also be impressed with the Iberico Pork Ribs Pongteh, in which the pork is slow-cooked for 12 hours. On weekends, head down for Baba Chews’ brunch. A semibuffet option is also available where you can enjoy the spread from the Continental Breakfast Pantry, along with hot mains from the Breakfast Clipboard Menu and two rotating hot Asian breakfast items. Coffee is a main draw at Baba Chews; its roasts are from Common Man Coffee Roasters. #01-01 Katong Square, 86 East Coast Road. Tel: 6723 2025
