Ichigo Ichie
A mother best understands another—and Chef Akane Eno proves this beautifully with her Mother’s Day tribute at Ichigo Ichie. Drawing from her own childhood memories, the kappo restaurant’s star offering is the Oyako Donabe, which reimagines the humble oyakodon Chef Akane’s mother lovingly prepared.

Japanese rice is soaked and cooked with shin tamanegi (spring yellow onions) for natural sweetness, then topped with simmered local yellow chicken minced soboro, garlic chives, and a luxurious scrambled egg yolk sauce enriched with uni. A signature seaweed blend of nori and ao nori rounds out each deeply comforting spoonful. Additional uni is served on the side, giving diners the option to fold it into the rice for extra richness. The dish is available from 5 to 16 May as part of Ichigo Ichie’s lunch and dinner menus. For reservations call or WhatsApp +65 90182897.

Shinsen Hanten
Many great chefs are where they are thanks to the influence of the women who prepared food lovingly in their households. On 9 and 10 May, Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro hosts a rare four-hands dinner that honours exactly that. Chef Chen Kentaro and close friend Chef Hashida “Hatch” Kenjiro come together for an intimate eight-course tribute to their mothers, who shaped their lives and culinary philosophies.

Priced at $288 per person, the menu is a thoughtful dialogue between Chuka Szechwan refinement and Japanese precision, opening with a hassun-style seasonal appetiser spread before moving through a silky hot and sour sea cucumber and fish maw chawanmushi, and luxurious abalone noodles dressed in chestnut-abalone sauce. A highlight is Shisen Hanten’s signature mapo tofu, beloved by both chefs’ mothers. The meal closes with wok-fried rice with dried barracuda and gin-infused salt, and a honey-lemon eggplant and almond parfait.
