The Peranakan Club

Tucked away on the second floor of the rear block of Orchard Towers, The Peranakan Club is a showcase of Straits Chinese cuisine and culture. The casual dining space is decked out in maximalist decor of pink flowers, vibrant wallpaper with peony motifs, and walls adorned with kerosangs (traditional brooches). Founder Raymond Khoo personally curated this place as a ‘living museum’ with several immersive zones.

This is where diners can enjoy robust, family-style dishes including classics like ayam buah keluak, prawn ngoh hiang, babi assam (pork belly slow-braised in tangy tamarind gravy) and more. Highlights include the dry laksa, itek tim or salted vegetable duck soup with a splash of XO brandy (a Khoo family’s recipe), and nasi ulam dulu kala, made with cold-steamed rice tossed with raw herbs, spices, and flaked salted fish.

A full vegetarian menu includes Lion’s Mane Buah Keluak and Konjac Pongteh. For a true-blue feast, the Grand Peranakan (Tok Panjang) space hosts traditional long-table meals with rarer plates such as Sambal Pisang Jantong (banana heart salad) and Babi Hong. Near the entrance, the Kebaya Bar also offers several Peranakan-inspired cocktails like the Kueh Salat and Bak Kwa Pisang Flip. The Peranakan Club also operates as a social enterprise registered with raiSE Singapore.

Fans of the popular Peranakan café and bakery Bibik Violet now have another location to satisfy their cravings, with the opening of its second outlet at Great World. Designed to look and feel like a family residence, the space is filled with heritage treasures, batik accents, and fringed lampshades, providing a cosy setting for guests to gather over kueh and coffee. Joining Bibik Violet’s signature selection of bakes are two new ang ku kueh flavours — black sesame and yam — as well as the beautifully layered kueh talam. For something heartier, there’s a full range of Peranakan and local favourites to choose from, such as Nyonya laksa, prawn mee, buah keluak soft rib, and chap chye. To mark the opening, three limited-time durian desserts will be available until 31 August 2026: durian chendol, sago gula melaka with durian, and pulut tatai with durian kaya.

Nyonya Next Door

Located at One Shenton, Nyonya Next Door serves Peranakan food fast-casual style, with a build-your-own-set concept. Diners pick a base — Kerabu Beehoon (vermicelli tossed with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, and ginger flower), Lemongrass Blue Pea Coconut Rice, or Nyonya Black Curry Rice (buah keluak paste, cocoa, and roasted spices) — then choose a main. Options range from Inchi Kabin Chicken Berempah and Beef Brisket Rendang to Coconut Chicken Kapitan and Assam Pedas Barramundi. Round it out with a sambal: the original, a citrusy sambal matah, or the Balinese-inspired sambal ijo. While the restaurant is made for quick service, the space is cosy, with tile motifs set alongside wood and rattan, making it just as suited to a solo lunch as a longer sit-down meal.

Martina’s Kitchen @ Aperia Mall

Following the success of its flagship Seletar outlet, Martina’s Kitchen brings modern Peranakan cuisine to a second outlet at Aperia Mall. The 128-seater space resembles the courtyard of a traditional Peranakan home. A wall of nine colourful windows, inspired by the old Hill Street Police Station, greets guests alongside a family collection of Peranakan porcelain, kasut manek (beaded shoes), hand-drawn batiks, and watercolour paintings. The menu, too, leans into nostalgia, with signatures like Singapore Satay, Sengguang Goreng, Sambal Chicken, Steam Assam Red Snapper, and Black Vinegar Pork Trotter. For a defining pairing, try the Lemongrass Chicken alongside the Bird of Paradise mocktail.
