The St. Regis Jakarta marks Indonesia’s Independence Month with Kanvas Rasa: Indonesia in Ink & Sugar, an art-inspired afternoon tea created in collaboration with Indonesian contemporary artist Eddy Susanto. Available from 1 to 31 August 2026 at The Drawing Room, the experience brings together visual art, gastronomy, and cultural storytelling in a format that feels both ceremonial and quietly playful.
The collaboration continues the hotel’s creative dialogue with Eddy, whose work often explores the intersection of Javanese heritage and global art history. At The St. Regis Jakarta, he is already closely connected to the property through the mural at The St. Regis Bar, where Wayang traditions are woven together with the history of jazz in Indonesia. His wider practice has also been recognised through exhibitions at the Singapore Biennale, the National Gallery of Indonesia, and Venice’s Giudecca Art District alongside the 59th Venice Biennale. In 2025, he received the 15th UOB Painting of the Year in the Established Artist Category.
For Kanvas Rasa, the point of departure is Sembilan Mata Hari Centhini, Eddy’s artistic interpretation of Serat Centhini, one of Java’s most treasured literary works. The text carries layers of knowledge, from philosophy and rituals to arts and culinary traditions, making it a fitting source for an afternoon tea that moves between memory, flavour, and form.
Executive Pastry Chef Kevin Lee translates those ideas into a collection of sweet and savoury creations, reinterpreting Indonesian flavours through a contemporary lens. Each piece is treated as an edible canvas, drawing from the stories and cultural richness of the archipelago without turning the experience into a literal retelling.
Set within The Drawing Room, Kanvas Rasa offers a softer way to celebrate Independence Month: through ink, sugar, and the quiet pleasure of seeing familiar Indonesian references take on a new shape at the table.
