Famed Spanish Restaurant ERRE & Urrechu Opens in Jakarta

Jakarta’s dining landscape is set to welcome a new authentic Spanish restaurant with the opening of ERRE & Urrechu Jakarta at Gran Meliá Jakarta. Launching on 13 June 2025, the restaurant marks the debut of acclaimed Basque chef Iñigo Urrechu outside of Spain, bringing his signature approach to live-fire grilling and soulful Northern Spanish cuisine.

Located on the hotel’s lobby floor, ERRE & Urrechu opens in Jakarta, and is led on the ground by head chef Alejandro García Martín, who brings over 15 years of international culinary experience. Together, they aim to deliver an elevated dining experience rooted in Basque heritage, with an emphasis on quality ingredients, precise technique, and storytelling through food.

Central to the concept is the use of open-flame cooking, a hallmark of Urrechu’s restaurants in Baarcelona and Marbella, which has won numerous accolades, including inducted into the Michelin Guide list. Grilling over live fire forms the basis of the menu, which blends robust traditional flavours with refined presentation. Each dish is designed not only to showcase Spanish culinary depth but also to create an emotional connection—one where flavour, aroma, and atmosphere work in harmony.

Urrechu’s creativity is evident through his menu, from a whole list of excellent starters such as mini brioche with king crab and zesty mayo or his two croquettas variants – ribeye and tiger prawn. The highlight is clearly grill masterpieces, including the Australian Wagyu MB5, licked with flame to perfection on jackfruit woodfires, served on a bed of fragrant rosemary, and just a dab of sambal salsa and coarse salt on the side.

“We did a lot of work in choosing wood for our fire. After much trial and error, the best for the steaks and fish is jackfruit wood, while for vegetables we use tamarind. You can almost taste the difference in the cooking. Amazing,” chef Urrechu stated, before later adding, “I don’t want to bring only my recipe to a new location. I want to blend it with the wealth of local flavours. Whether it’s sourcing ingredients, or adapting taste with Indonesian influence – such as the sambal for steak -, I’m so excited about this.”

ERRE & Urrechu opens in Jakarta with a design conceived by CMV Architects from Spain, channels Mediterranean warmth with a Jakarta twist. A mature olive tree stands at the centre of the dining room, symbolising longevity and the Mediterranean spirit. Around it, earthy hues, soft lighting, and natural textures build an atmosphere of relaxed oasis among Jakarta’s towering business district. The open kitchen, which anchors the space, allows diners to witness the action of fire-based cooking firsthand. Meanwhile, a Spanish tavern–inspired bar and a series of private dining rooms cater to both intimate meals and convivial gatherings.
