Swara Apurva: A Soundscape of Indonesia at The Apurva Kempinski Bali

As part of its 2025 brand campaign, Powerful Indonesia to the World, The Apurva Kempinski Bali joins forces with Indonesian jazz legend Indra Lesmana to present Swara Apurva, a musical initiative launching in April 2025. This original composition draws inspiration from Dewata Nawa Sanga, the sacred Balinese philosophy representing nine deities and the island’s spiritual compass.

Echoing throughout the resort as its official anthem, Swara Apurva further underlines the resort’s commitment to celebrating and preserving Indonesia’s cultural tapestry through innovative expression. The piece complements the ongoing campaign and marks the sixth anniversary of The Apurva Kempinski Bali.

Each of the nine movements in the composition reflects a cardinal direction, embodying the spiritual essence and cultural character associated with it. In every note, the heritage, biodiversity, and enduring wisdom of Indonesia find an elevated voice.

“At The Apurva Kempinski Bali, we remain tireless in our mission to celebrate and spotlight Indonesia’s beauty, vitality, and traditions on the global stage,” states Vincent Guironnet, general manager of The Apurva Kempinski Bali.

From the lobby and hallways to the guest rooms, the melodies evoke the spiritual energy of Bali’s cardinal directions. For further immersion, guests are also offered personalised playlists inspired by the Dewata Nawa Sanga.

“Swara Apurva represents our ongoing commitment to introducing Indonesia’s vibrant culture and heritage to the world,” general manager Guironnet explains. “Through this immersive guest experience, we proudly share Indonesia’s powerful stories, showcasing the richness and remarkable craftsmanship of our culture.”

A rich ensemble of indigenous instruments comes together in harmony to shape the melody of Swara Apurva

Renowned for his genre-spanning career across jazz, pop, progressive rock, ethnographic, and contemporary music, Indra Lesmana brings his artistry to Swara Apurva. The composition masterfully weaves traditional textures utilising indigenous instruments such as gamelan, rindik, jegog, suling, kendang, kecapi, angklung, sape, sulim, and sasando, blended with the refined elegance of piano and string quartet. This composition not only deepens Lesmana’s musical legacy but also elevates Indonesia’s presence on the world stage.

“Inspired by the sacred Dewata Nawa Sanga philosophy, Swara Apurva is a complex and soulful composition that reflects Indonesia’s spiritual essence, natural elements, and the profound depth of its cultural history. Each note in this composition reverberates with the power of Indonesia’s identity, inviting guests and listeners into a different dimension that touches both the heart and spirit,” says Lesmana.
