Despite the downs in recent years, new Indian wineries are making brave efforts to steer the nascent wine industry and make their mark on the global stage.

When Uma Chigurupati and her husband Krishnan Prasad Chigurupati first started their winery, Krsma Estates, looking at what the other Indian wineries were doing was not something they even considered.

“We want to create wines we desire to drink,” explained Uma. The couple delved into experimentation with high tech viticulture tools, crafting credible wines that have scored international recognition at the International Wine Challenge and Decanter World Wine Awards. This opened up desirable export markets such as New York, with hopes for more global representation.
