The Apurva Kempinski Bali introduces Spice Route Voyage in partnership with Indonesian yachting specialist Yacht Sourcing – a seven-day phinisi journey retracing the ancient maritime pathways that once made the Indonesian archipelago the epicentre of global trade. Launching in April 2026, the programme anchors the resort’s year-long campaign, Powerful Indonesia: Spice Route Legacy, marking seven years of redefining luxury hospitality through the lens of cultural storytelling.

Reviving Indonesia’s maritime heritage
For over 4,500 years, Indonesia’s islands were the world’s most coveted source of cloves, nutmeg, pepper and sandalwood. The spice trade connected Nusantara to China, India, Arabia and Europe, shaping empires and facilitating the exchange of faith, art and ideas. Today, Spice Route Voyage transforms that vast narrative into an intimate, immersive experience.
Guests embark on handcrafted wooden phinisi schooners, navigating waters that once mirrored the trade routes of antiquity. Seasonal itineraries explore some of Indonesia’s most storied spice heartlands – from North Maluku’s legendary clove islands of Ternate and Tidore to the Banda Islands, once the world’s sole source of nutmeg. Routes may also trace the maritime kingdoms of South Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara, regions steeped in seafaring tradition and cultural depth.
More than a voyage, it is a passage through living history – one that balances material luxury with a profound sense of place.

From sea to sanctuary
The five-day Phinisi Experience seamlessly transitions into a two-night stay at the resort’s Nusantara Presidential Villa, where the narrative continues on land. Designed for up to six guests, the experience includes daily breakfast, luxury chauffeur service, and a curated programme inspired by the spice trade’s enduring influence.
A Raja Mangsa Imperial Dinner traces the flavours of ancient kingdoms, while Afternoon Tea unfolds with refined elegance. At L’Atelier by Cyril Kongo, a Spice Route-inspired cocktail session brings contemporary artistry to heritage ingredients, before a restorative treatment at Apurva Spa concludes the journey in quiet indulgence.

A partnership anchored in purpose
Founded in Bali in 2016, Yacht Sourcing has established itself as Indonesia’s leading marine leisure company, championing the preservation of the nation’s maritime heritage. Its fleet of handcrafted phinisi yachts – built by skilled Indonesian artisans – reflects a commitment to sustaining traditional craftsmanship while training the next generation of sailors and storytellers.
“Spice Route Voyage with The Apurva Kempinski Bali is a partnership we are truly proud of, as it reflects what we deeply believe: that the most meaningful luxury is one that gives back to the land, the sea, and the people who make Indonesia extraordinary,” said Yacht Sourcing’s Founder and CEO of Boem Senous.
The collaboration builds upon an established synergy between the two brands. In 2024, they co-hosted an exclusive gala dinner at Bali’s Black Stone Yacht Club, where a Michelin-recognised chef from the resort’s Koral Restaurant curated a private menu – an evening that exemplified their shared ethos of turning heritage into experience.

Powerful Indonesia: Spice Route Legacy
Since opening, The Apurva Kempinski Bali has positioned itself as more than a five-star resort. It stands as a cultural ambassador – weaving Indonesia’s arts, wellness traditions and gastronomy into world-class hospitality.
The Powerful Indonesia: Spice Route Legacy campaign extends this philosophy across a year-long programme of cultural activations, curated guest experiences and artistic collaborations. Spice Route Voyage is its most ambitious expression yet.
“Indonesia’s Spice Route is one of the great untold stories of world civilisation,” shared The Apurva Kempinski Bali’s General Vincent Guironnet. “Our role extends beyond offering a beautiful place to stay. We serve as a living bridge between our guests and the profound legacy of this archipelago. The Spice Route Voyage, together with our trusted partner Yacht Sourcing, is precisely that – a journey as rare and meaningful as it is unforgettable. This is Indonesia, as it was always meant to be discovered.”
