Reinterpreting Peranakan favourites
Enjoy a midday respite at InterContinental Singapore's The Lobby Lounge as they offer up high tea with a local twist.
InterContinental Singapore’s new Peranakan Afternoon Tea experience is rich in flavour and character, with creative treats like Ondeh Ondeh Cake, Five Spice Ngoh Hiang and Milo Scones served alongside homemade gula melaka coconut jam, all presented in a beautiful tiered wooden tower that’s highly Instagrammable too. The set comes at $88 for two persons, inclusive of fine loose-leaf tea or coffee. Or get everything mentioned plus two flutes of Champagne for $118.
A new locally-inspired cocktail menu is available too. Crafted based on the journeys of Sang Nila Utama, each of the four new drinks ($16 each) aim to tell a part of the storied figure’s exploration of Singapore. Try The King of The Jungle, a ruby red cocktail showcasing indigenous herbs like kaffir lime, star anise and cinnamon. It’s inspired by the lion that Sang Nila Utama first spotted upon landing, and which prompted him to name the island we stand on Singapura. Or go for Crown Into The Sea, a light cocktail made up of rum, apricot brandy, peach schnapps and ginger beer served with slices of lime. It’s derived from the story about the great storm which led to the Prince throwing his crown overboard as a gift to the sea to calm the raging waters, thus allowing him to reach Temasek safely.
