Watch and learn how to cook three Asian dishes for the upcoming National Day long weekend

This year’s National Day Parade may have been postponed but it should not stop us from celebrating our nation’s 56th birthday or the long weekend.

If you are staying in (which is highly encouraged), you might as well make it meaningful and educational for the whole family. One way to do that is to whip up a home-cooked meal – from scratch. Yes it takes more time and effort, but, trust us, it’s fun, personal and a great way to spend time with loved ones.

To help you do just that, Kenwood, which specialises in a wide range of kitchen appliances, will be running two live shows featuring classic local dishes and colourful desserts on its Facebook page.

Laksa

The first is Kenwood Live: Home-cooked laksa and prawn roll (hei zho) with Sharefood Singapore on 4 Aug, 7pm to 8pm. Find out how to make the iconic Peranakan Nyonya Laksa and Hei Zho or Crispy Fried Prawn Rolls. The show will be hosted by home chef Roland Lim of Spice N’ Pans, in partnership with Sharefood Singapore.

You’ll learn that infusing a variety of Asian spices into the rich and luscious coconut gravy of Peranakan Nyonya Laksa gives it a robust and aromatic fragrance, and simmering the gravy with fresh prawns adds sweetness and umami flavour.

Complete the dish with your favourite noodles, fresh toppings, laksa leaves and sambal chilli.

Prawn roll

Hei Zho is a Teochew dish that can be commonly found in Singapore’s zhi char stalls, made from a blend of sweet fresh prawns, minced pork and crunchy chestnuts. Learn how to achieve the perfect roll, where it is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Viewers also stand to win a set of hand mixer HM680 worth $179. More details will be revealed during the show. Set your alarms and watch on Facebook LIVE here: https://fb.me/e/2nVo5hHwj

Korean macarons

The second show Kenwood Live: Korean Chubby Macarons is for everyone with a sweet tooth out there. Presented by bakehouse and studio Nanatang on 6 Aug, 6.30pm to 7.30pm, founder Serena Tang will be teaching how to bake Korean Chubby Macarons in two exciting flavours. Guaranteed to look and taste good, these oversized macarons are the perfect cheerful desserts we need at home right now.
