The third Thursday of November is traditionally Beaujolais Nouveau day.

, Beaujolais Nouveau 2015

Made from only Gamay grapes from the Beaujolais AOC, Beaujolais Noveau is an iconic, easy drinking wine made in just a few weeks after harvest. With 2015 shaping out to be one of the best in recent years for Gamay – possibly comparable to the stellar 2005 and 2009, according to winemaker Yves-Dominique Ferraud, this is a great occasion to get a few bottles of his P. Ferraud & Fils Beaujolais Nouveau 2015 ($35 till end November) for the festive season.

With a luscious berry colour with a tint of purple, and rich nose of red fruits, the wine should be drunk young to appreciate its freshness and slight spiciness. Due to being made in the carbonic maceration method, very little tannins are extracted, making the wine ideal for those who want vibrant, light reds. The wine is also well-matched to foods like cold marinated pasta with prawn, and truffled sandwiches, as we found out over an event organised by Chateau Asia to celebrate Beaujolais Day. www.chateauasia.com/products/pierre-ferraud-beaujolais-nouveau
